Required Experience
4 - 5 years experience in a general marine mechanic position
School Diploma or GED
Vocational/Technical/Business School
Physical Requirements
The ability to stoop, crouch, pull, push, reach, hear, near vision, kneel, talk, stand, grasp,
walk and lift up to 50 lbs are required.
Marine Electrician
Position Summary
Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical and electronic wiring, equipment, appliances,
apparatus, and fixtures, on vessels using hand tools and power tools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with classification society requirements.
Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate and correct a failure.
Construct and fabricate parts, repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures using hand tools, power tools and specifications.
Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices such as multimeters, and megger testers to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
Provide preliminary sketches and list materials.
Provide supervisor with job status and recommendations to improve quality and efficiency.
Perform other tasks and work as directed by the supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Train and instruct assistants when assigned.
Qualifications
Applicable marine experience or equivalent.
Education and Experience
High School Graduate or equivalent. Basic understanding of labor categories and time keeping.
Language Skills
Ability to read, understand and utilize basic engineering documentation.
Mathematical Skills
Working knowledge of basic engineering and electrical calculations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to interpret instructions and solve basic problems presented in written, oral or schedule form.
Physical Demands
Operate industrial equipment. Move material up to 75 lbs.
Work Environment
8-hour workday. Occasional Overtime. Must be able to work in all types of weather environments.
Should have suitable clothing including wet weather gear. Should be presentable at all times and
expect to communicate with yacht crew, captain, chief engineer or vessel manager.
